Priory Woods School & Arts College A Special Place to Learn

Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum comprises all of the programmes of study that we offer our children and young people in order to promote learning experiences and develop their skills and knowledge. Our curriculum at Priory Woods School and Arts College is comprised of three pathways: Engage, Explore and Challenge, from EYFS through to Post 16. We deliver a curriculum that has breadth, balance and challenge. It is tailored and relevant to the individual needs of our pupils, however, we see the distinctions between each pathway as being flexible allowing for movement between the pathways for some pupils.

Our curriculum is responsive to each learner and will build on their individual strengths and interests. Children will encounter and have the opportunity to develop a variety of key skills through creativity, communication, cognition, independence, physical development and Preparation for Adulthood. A rolling programme is in place, which supports learning through different topics, themes, subjects and experiences.

Our curriculum engages and motivates learners to be successful in their own right, make progress and live happy and healthy lives, it aligns to long term outcomes for learners in preparing students for life post 19.

Our Aim:

We want to support our children and young people to be as independent as they can be to be, we want them to love coming to school and enjoy learning. We want to support our children and young people to be safe, healthy and happy and to feel part of not only our school community but the wider community beyond the school gates.

Pupils progress through each pathway through their milestones, the can then progress onto a different pathway if they are able. For those who cannot progress onto the next pathway children will continue to be provided with the opportunity to develop, broaden and consolidate their skills. On entering Priory Woods School in reception children will be assessed in order to identify the most appropriate pathway, we will use information from the EHCP of the child, as well as reports and information from other professional bodies to support children through the EYFS curriculum.
