Priory Woods School & Arts College A Special Place to Learn

Physical Development and Therapies

Physical Development

Intent

At Priory Woods School, we strive to ensure that opportunities are provided to enable all students to reach their optimum physical and emotional development and good health. This is extremely individualised based on the needs of each student, we work alongside professionals such as Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists to plan and deliver personalised teaching and learning.

The environments and facilities within school are fundamental to accomplishing this, these include; hydrotherapy pool, rebound therapy, soft play, sensory integration suite and a vast range of outdoor learning environments. Classroom environments are purposefully planned to allow physical needs to be met throughout the day.

Educational visits, residential visits and external providers are utilised to enhance our physical development offering which supports all aspects of the pupils learning and wellbeing.

Across the three curriculum pathways we foster students need and motivation to be physically active which encourages the development of life long skills through;

  • Building students strength, stamina, co-ordination and balance
  • Acquiring a range of fine and gross motor skills and movements which they can control
  • Refining control and manipulation skills through exposure to a variety of tools and equipment
  • Building confidence and self-esteem and building relationships through play, teamwork and physical education
  • Promoting independence by allowing them to make decisions and choices that will help to keep our students healthy and safe.
